Virtual School Announces New Initiative Advancing High-Quality Academic Feedback for Online Students

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. MNPS Virtual School - Tennessee’s first, highest-achieving virtual school - announced a new initiative focused on increasing and advancing high-quality academic feedback for online learners. 

To measure the quality of academic feedback provided to students, Virtual School recently developed a robust instrument – an Academic Feedback Assessment tool. This new tool assesses the quality of academic feedback provided by online teachers to students. This groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind instrument measures the following components associated with highly-effective online teacher feedback:

  • Tech-tiquette & Presentation
  • Timeliness
  • Consistency
  • Professionalism
  • Call of the Question/Assignment
  • Textual Evidence
  • Questioning
  • Actionable & Specific Feedback
  • Opportunity for Reflection

Virtual School staff also identified intersections - within the new instrument - with the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model, or T.E.A.M., demonstrating the connections between the two evaluative systems. The school is currently using the tool to assess the quality of all feedback provided as well as providing individualized coaching for all online teachers.
