NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. Dr. Zack Barnes will soon begin his next adventure as an Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning at Austin Peay State University (APSU). In this week’s blog post, Mrs. Nikki Healy sits down for a “Q” and “A” with Dr. Barnes. Zack has served within Metro-Nashville Public Schools for five years, and he has been a valued member of the Virtual School family for the past two years.
Mrs. Nikki Healy (Q): Mr. Barnes, congratulations on your new position! Can you tell us a bit about it?
Dr. Zack Barnes (A): My new job will be as an Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning at Austin Peay State University. I’ll continue to stay focused on special education while at APSU. This opportunity provides me the chance to prepare the next wave of Tennessee teachers, which is so very exciting! Tennessee continues to need special education teachers, and I can’t wait to help in that process. APSU is doing amazing things right now, and I’m excited to take what I have learned in MNPS and bring it with me to APSU.
Mrs. Nikki Healy (Q): You are going to be such a wonderful asset to APSU, but we will miss you immensely. What have been your favorite reflections about working with MNPS Virtual School?
Dr. Zack Barnes (A): I have loved working with the students, and I have also loved the critical thinking and collaboration that takes place within MNPS Virtual School. I have had a chance to create some amazing things here, and the staff at MNPS Virtual School is top-notch.
Mrs. Nikki Healy (Q): What is your most treasured accomplishment during your time at MNPS Virtual School?
Dr. Zack Barnes (A): I am most proud of creating a Project LIT Book Club chapter and building a school library. Books change lives, and a school can never have too many!
Mrs. Nikki Healy (Q): We are so grateful for you, Dr. Barnes, and we promise to keep reading! What is one final piece of advice you would like to leave for your MNPS Virtual School family?
Dr. Zack Barnes (A): Speak up for the injustices you see, and never stop reading!
